Here’s everything we know about The Fate of the Furious, including the trailer, Super Bowl TV Spot, viral videos and everything else.
When Furious 7 sweetly ended with Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor driving one way and Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto drifting the other, fans knew that wherever Dom stopped, it would be someplace different for him and us.
Well, we’re getting closer to knowing exactly where that is as Fast 8 , the next film in the Fast & Furious opus, has a new title, The Fate of The Furious, and its first trailer has also arrived. But while it promises a rift in the family between Dom and the others, we have a hunch they’ll make a speedy recovery, given how all the other characters speak of each other in this franchise.
Latest The Fate of The Furious News
We’ve got a new trailer for The Fate of the Furious, and while it doesn’t explain why Vin Diesel’s Dom has turned against his family, it does give us a bit more backstory on Charlize Theron’s Cipher. Check it out…

It has been a long curiosity about just who Helen Mirren will be playing in this franchise of fast cars and big explosions. we have the answer! Indeed, while Luke Evans was chatting with the site about his upcoming film Beauty and the Beast, he accidentally spilled the beans on Mirren playing the mother of his and Jason Statham’s characters in The Fate of the Furious.
While discussing the condition of his Furious villain Owen Shaw, who was not killed in his appearance in Fast & Furious 6, Evans said, ““He’s in a military hospital because he’s the most wanted man in the world, but he’s got a very powerful brother, and he’s now got a mum as well, who’s played by Helen Mirren.”
If she is the mama of these baddies, no wonder Dom can’t shake them.

Given how beloved Furious 7’s “See You Again” was in 2015, this is increasingly a big deal. Breyan Isaac revealed in an interview with Songwriter Universe that he is producing the so
for Fast & Furious 8, as well as who’ll be performing the number.
There’s a song coming out with Lil Uzi Vert, Travis Scott and Quavo (from the group, Migos) that’s going to be the theme song for Fast & Furious 8,” Isaac said. “That will be a single out in March, or close to when the movie comes out in April.
Travis Scott is best known for such songs as “Antidote” and “Beibs in the Trap.” Lil Uzi Vert is also known for “Money Longer” and “You Was Right.”
The Fate of the Furious Release Date
The eighth Fast & Furious movie will be opening on April 14, 2017. About that date, Diesel said, while holding back tears, “We were giddy and excited. You all gave me so much confidence. There was so much love.”
The Fate of the Furious Director
Neither the most popular F&F director, Justin Lin, or James Wan, who led the tragic but ultimately successful production of Furious 7 through the wilderness, will be back for Fast 8. Still, we imagine that fans won’t mind since F. Gary Gray, the director of Straight Outta Compton, will be helming this effort. It also isn’t his first time around car chases since he memorably directed the Mini Cooper-based thrills of The Italian Job remake back in 2003.
The Fate of the Furious Casts Its Family
The Toretto family might be one short of its crew, but there are still plenty of them to keep the engines reving. In addition to Diesel of course returning to his franchise, we also know that Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs will be appearing, and Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Lucas Black, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Elsa Pataky will all be reprising their roles.
Further, despite being a villainous force in the last two films, Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw shall ride again into the franchise, as will… Helen Mirren?! Yep, the Dame Commander of the British Empire has apparently always wanted in on the Fast & Furious action, and she’s been cast in an unspecified role. Also, and perhaps most importantly, Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody is back, but we’ll get to him in a moment.
The Fate of the Furious Villain
Yet, other than of course Dame Helen Mirren, the biggest deal about the next installment is who they have playing the villain… and it’s Furiosa herself, Charlize Theron!
While Ms. Theron has expressed reluctance toward another deserty shoot in the Mad Max films (Fury Road was an infamous struggle to produce), she has happily signed on to play Cipher, a character that will wreak havoc on the Big Apple. While we don’t know too much of Cipher’s backstory (yet), composer Brian Tyler explained to that, “It’s like a siren kind of thing. There’s no question the havoc and villainy she brings [but] you’re attracted to it. There’s something where you can kind of see yourself in this villain that makes it more disturbing and, at the same time, more interesting. It’s the sympathetic villains, in a way, who really get under your skin.”
We also have a fancy image of this automotive siren too!
The Fate of the Furious Plot
From even very early on, and while Furious 7 was still in theaters, we knew Fast 8 would be set in New York City and deal with the enigmatic past of Kurt Russell’s lovable Mr. Nobody.
As Diesel told Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2015, “I always think of these films [as] multiple pictures at a time.” In that vein it makes sense that the mysteirous Russell character, who disappeared in Furious 7 while sitting in a desert, would return.
“Kurt Russell came in for this movie, but we really hired him for a story that follows this that takes placei in New York.”
